Visitors to Ireland on the increase

Recent CSO figures indicate trips to Ireland increased by over 9% for the period
May to July 2011. However trips by Irish residents overseas decreased by 1.8%.

In the period May to July of 2011, the total number of overseas trips to Ireland
increased by 9.4% to 1,948,800, an overall increase of 167,100, compared to the same
period twelve months earlier. Visitors from European Countries other than Great
Britain (Other Europe) and North America both increased by 9.3% to 679,100 and
368,100 respectively. Trips by residents of Great Britain were up by 8.8% to 791,200
while trips by residents of all Other Areas rose by 14.5%.

The total number of overseas trips by Irish residents decreased by 1.8% to
1,972,500 when compared to the same period in 2010. May to July of 2010 saw a
drop of 3.5% from the corresponding period in 2009. The total number of trips (Irish trips overseas plus trips to Ireland) in the period May to July of 2011 increased by 3.5 % to 3,921,400, when compared with the same period in 2010.
